Orange essential oil is produced from cells inside the rind of an orange
fruit. In contrast to most essential oils, it is extracted as a by-product of
orange juice production by centrifugation, producing a cold-pressed oil. It is
composed of mostly (greater than 90%) d-limonene. Limonene gives citrus that
rich juicy aroma. Prima Fleur Orange Essential Oil [No. 190] and
certified-organic Orange oil [No. 243] are made in the USA.
Orange oil
has beneficial anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and antiseptic qualities.
Applying orange oil to the skin not only helps to reduce inflammation and
soothe sore muscles. It can also improve the skin tone and texture and combat
acne and dermatitis. The natural disinfectant qualities of orange oil also make
it useful for cleaning and treating scratches, scrapes and other minor wounds.
The strong,
appealing scent of orange essential oil makes it a popular choice for
aromatherapy applications. It is believed the smell of orange oil may improve
one's overall mood, promote relaxation and peace of mind, reduce anger and
anxiety, and even act as a natural aphrodisiac.

A cultivated
citrus fruit, Citrus junos, our Yuzu Essential Oil from Japan [Prima Fleur No. 238] is cold-pressed
for the peel. Very rare and luscious, this traditional Japanese citrus is used
almost exclusively for its aromatic rind. The fruit is acidic and moderately
juicy with a refreshing aroma that is distinct from any other Western citrus
fruit.
The peel is strongly scented and makes a good addition to blends and in perfumery. In Japan, bathing with yuzu on the winter solstice is
a custom that dates to at least the early 18th century. Whole yuzu fruits are
floated in the hot water of the bath, sometimes enclosed in a cloth bag,
releasing their aroma. The fruit may also be cut in half, allowing the citrus
juice to mingle with the bathwater. The yuzu bath, known commonly as yuzuyu,
but also as yuzuburo, is said to guard against colds, treat the roughess
of skin, warm the body, and relax the mind.
