Litsea cubeba (May Chang) is a small tropical tree with lemon scented leaves and flowers and small berries which resemble peppers. The scent of May Chang has been compared to lemongrass and lemon verbena. It is most valued for its antiseptic properties when used externally in skin care.

Winter Remedies

We're suffering one of the worst cold and flu seasons in years. Don't forget about the wonderful therapeutic benefits essential oils can provide. Prima Fleur Essential Oil: CANDEIA

Candeia Essential Oil [Prima Fleur No. 368] is from the bark of a Brazilian tree. The bark produces a clear oil containing over 95% alpha-bisabolol, a component that has long been used in medicine to fight inflammation, and is well known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral properties.

In cosmetics, a-bisabolol is present in many products due to its soothing properties. For the natural perfumer, the soft floral, fruity, woody aroma with a slow dry-down would be a good bridge or binder note.

Prima Fleur Essential Oil: MANDRAVASAROTRA

Mandravasarotra or Saro oil (Cinnamosma fragrans) is uplifting and sort of herbaceous/ lemony/fruity. It helps infectious states, inhale or take a drop in your tea for sinusitis, rhinitis, asthma; fabulous for inhalation, especially during the cold season. The components are 1.8 cineole, and monoterpenes, steam-distilled from the leaf. Native to Madagascar, this plant is evergreen and very aromatic, and can reach up to five meters in height. In Malagasy, Mandravasarotra means “what keeps evil away.” Add Prima Fleur Mandravasarotra Essential Oil [No. 376] to your muscular blend for muscles and joint pain.

A favorite in perfume making, this essential oil tones other scents and blends well with lavender, rosemary and bergamot. Clary sage has estrogen-like properties, and helps ease symptoms associated with menopause, PMS, nervous fatigue, and insomnia. Prima Fleur Essential Oil: OWYHEE

Steam-distilled in Oregon, our Owyhee Essential Oil, Artemisia ludoviciana, [Prima Fleur No. 321] is clear, colorless, non-viscous. It is full of esters (over 85%) and the scent is strongly fruity, with herbal and spicy back-notes like Roman chamomile. Since it contains more esters than Roman chamomile it makes a great substitute that is very fragrant and much more economical than that imported product.

Owyhee hydrosol is very floral and fruity in scent and can be substituted for the water in any skin care product where it will be very beneficial for skin care and where you might want a soothing anti-inflammatory. It can be used in the bath for soothing the skin, as a soothing facial spray, or as a fragrant mister on bed linens for scent and sleep.

With its high ester content, the oil has powerful uses for skin care and in custom body care products as a relaxing inhalant or in fragrant blends for perfume, or in massage oils. It helps heals inflamed skin, and in aromatherapy can help calm the mind.
